What are the top sports games ever played in Kansas City?  Everyone has their opinion as to the top games.  According to the KC Star newspaper, in chronological order, here's the top sports games ever played in KC:

4/12/1955- Opening Day at Municipal Stadium, with the KC Athletics beating the Detroit Tigers 6-2, and former president Harry Truman throwing out the first ball.

3/23/1957-NCAA Championship at Municipal Auditorium, with North Carolina's triple over time win over Kansas 54-53.  Wilt Chamberlain played for the Kansas Jayhawks at this time.

12/25/1971- AFC first round play off game at Municipal Stadium, KC Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins, on Christmas Day, the longest football game in history with 5 1/2 quarters and Miami winning 27-24.

7/24/1973- MLB All Star Game, at Royals Stadium, Johnny Bench's mammoth home run at 480 ft, the longest in All Star game history.

4/4/1988- NCAA Championship at Kemper Arena, at the 50th anniversary celebration, coming to KC, who has been host to more final fours than any other, with the Jayhawks beating the OK Sooners 83-79.

10/9/1977- ALCS Game 5, at Royals Stadium, with the KC Royals vs. NY Yankees, and one of best Royals teams with 102 wins that year, but loosing to the Bronx Bombers 5-3.

10/27/1985- Game 7 of the World Series at Royals Stadium, KC vs. St. Louis Cardinals, in the I-70 series, and the Royals winning the game and series.

12/28/1991-AFC first round game at Arrowhead Stadium, KC vs. Oakland Raiders, with the Chiefs winning 10-6.

9/11/1994- Chiefs vs. 40'ers at Arrowhead Stadium, with Joe Montana as the Chiefs QB vs. Steve Young the 49'ers QB, Derrick Thomas sack and safety for a KC victory 24-17.

1/7/1996- AFC second round playoff game, Chiefs vs. Colts, with minus 9 degree wind chill.  (I was at this game!)  Colts win 10-7. 

12/6/2003- 2003 Big 12 Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium, with #1 Oklahoma vs. Kansas State ( I was also at this game!)  K-State upset the Sooners 35-7. 

11/24/2007- Missouri vs. Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium, 10-1 MU vs. 11-0 KU in a bitter college football rivalry!  ESPN's College Gameday is broadcast at Arrowhead Stadium for pre-game show.
